South China Sea Fengyun Forum held in Wangning,China
The Sixth South China Sea Fengyun Forum, jointly organized by Hainan Provincial Meteorological Bureau, the Hainan Association of Meteorology and the Hainan Provincial Key Laboratory of South China Sea Meteorological Disaster Prevention and Reduction, was held in Wanning, Hainan Province on December 2nd, 2016.
Academicians Qin Dahe and Wu Guoxiong from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and over 140 meteorologists, coming from eight scientific research institutes, Sun Yat-sen University, the Chengdu University of Information Technology, the National Meteorological Center of CMA, the National Climate Center of China Meteorological Administration, China Meteorological Administration Training Centre, Xichang Satellite Launch Center, and meteorological bureaus of 13 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), attended the forum to discuss disastrous weather and climate in the South China Sea, and the scientific research achievements in related fields.
The theme of this forum is "typhoon, heavy rain, and severe convective weather."
Academicians Qin Dahe, Academician Wu Guoxiong, Professor Dong Wenjie and Researcher Liang Jianyin were specially invited to respectively deliver speeches "Development of Cryospheric Science", "Impact of ENSO Events on the Onset of Asian Summer Monsoon", "Climate Change: Historical Obligations and Responsibilities of Human Society" and " Achieve Gridded Forecasts by Focusing on Development of High-resolution Regional Numerical Weather Prediction.”
In addition, experts mainly from the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, the National Meteorological Center of CMA, the National Climate Center of CMA, China Meteorological Administration Training Centre, Shanghai Typhoon Institute, and the Guangzhou Institute of Tropical and Marine Meteorology delivered speeches on typhoons and heavy rains in the South China Sea. Grass-root forecasters of meteorological observatories in coastal provinces and cities in North China, East China, and South China discussed on technologies of forecasting and prediction for high-impact weather such as high winds at sea and severe convective weather. Also, the forum proceedings included 60 papers related to typhoons, heavy rains, severe convective weather, and so on.
